(ORDO NEWS) — The Finnish nuclear power plant Olkiluoto suffered from a serious accident that happened on December 10 in the second power unit. It had to be urgently turned off due to a problem.
The owner company Teollisuuden Voima provided the accident data in the afternoon. The reactor shut down automatically. Experts began to examine the power unit to establish the cause of the accident. There is also information that the rest of the power units are operating normally, regardless of the fact that the second reactor remains off.
As a result of the incident, there were no emissions, so the accident is not a threat to people or to the environment. A little later, more details will appear when specialists can establish the cause of the incident.
The radiation and nuclear safety department received a statement about the accident at 13:00. STUK representatives provided information that radiation did not enter the environment, so there is no cause for concern.
