(ORDO NEWS) — In 2016, the Swiss company Flyability, together with the search and rescue service of the city of Zermatt, tested the Gimball extreme drone in the Alps.
The unique Gimball aircraft is equipped with two propellers on the same axis and is protected from the outside by a spherical frame on a free suspension.
Thanks to this design, the drone is not afraid of collisions and does not change the direction of flight when touched.
The flying robot is also equipped with lights and a camera that transmits video to the operator in real time.
As part of an alpine test, the Gimball descended into the glacier and allowed rescuers to safely explore its fissure.
