(ORDO NEWS) — Shepherd already with difficulty kept on the water, but did not stop swimming. After all, somewhere out there, in the middle of the bay, her owner was drifting all alone.
German Shepherd Heidi was discovered early in the morning in Moreton Bay in Australia by a casual fisherman.
The dog swam next to the fishing tackle box, wetsuit and other items. He fished the exhausted animal out of the water and reported the find to the Coast Guard.
An hour later, a helicopter, four rescue boats, a jet ski, as well as a coast guard and a rescue team from a volunteer organization arrived at the site. It was clear that a boat with an unknown number of people had sunk somewhere.
It was decided to bring the dog to land, but she whined all the time and again rushed into the water, as if trying to show the way to the rescuers.
A few hours later, the owner of the shepherd dog was discovered: a 63-year-old man clung to the edge of the boat, which had almost completely submerged.
As he said later, he lost control of the ship, and it began to sink the previous evening. At some point, everything got out of control – he was thrown in one direction, and the dog in the other. There were many things on the surface of the water, and soon he lost sight of the pet.
According to the police report, Heidi spent about 11 hours in the water, looking for help for her master. It’s a miracle she survived and didn’t drown.
The dog was very tired, but did not stop swimming. Fortunately, neither the owner nor his pet was hurt and were soon able to reunite.
The meeting was touching. According to the man, all the 15 hours that he drifted in the water, he did not stop hoping that Heidi would find help.
And he is very grateful that she was able to do this. For his heroism, the shepherd dog was awarded the title of honorary police dog and a decent supply of delicious treats.
