US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The head of the Global Partnership for Tuberculosis warns that quarantines worldwide introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic will lead to a serious outbreak of tuberculosis.
Difficulties with diagnosis and the lack of necessary treatment during a pandemic can lead to the death of approximately 1.4 million people, the study says.
According to The Guardian, by 2025, 6.3 million people will develop tuberculosis. And the current epidemiological crisis will cast off global efforts to combat this disease five to eight years ago.
Now all the efforts of the world community are devoted to the search for a vaccine against coronavirus, while vaccines against a number of other dangerous diseases, including tuberculosis, have not yet been found. But work on them is suspended, and this is unacceptable, experts say.
The study was commissioned by the Stop TB Partnership in collaboration with Imperial College London, Johns Hopkins University and Avenir Health.
Tuberculosis is killing more people than any other infectious disease.
