US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Microsoft offered $ 100 thousand for hacking its own version of the Linux operating system. The company created this OS for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
The giant version of Linux introduced the custom version of Linux last year. It is called Azure Sphere. The network says that Linux was chosen by the company because of security and speed.
Now Microsoft wants hackers to check the system for vulnerabilities. Specialists will be rewarded if they break into the Pluton security subsystem or the Secure World (SW) work environment. This program is part of a three-month research project that runs from June 1 to August 31.
The Verge reported that Azure Sphere is already being used, for example, by the Starbucks coffee shop chain, which is deploying a system to protect its equipment that transmits data on coffee bean types, beverage temperature, and water quality.
