US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — If the second wave of COVID-19 begins in the world , then it can become very destructive, according to the World Health Organization.
“The second wave is not inevitable. However, an increasing number of countries are lifting restrictions, there is a clear threat of a re-surge in COVID-19 infection,” said Hans Kluge, Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
According to him, it is necessary to very carefully remove restrictions and constantly monitor the situation, because in fact now it’s “no better than at the beginning of the year”: there is still no vaccine or treatment for a new type of coronavirus.
At the same time, Kluge noted that after the first wave it became clear what preventive measures work, and if a new outbreak of the disease occurs, people will be better prepared for this.
