US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The head of the World Health Organization‘s office for Europe said nearly half of the deaths from Covid-19 across the continent had been in elderly asylum seekers.
“This is an unimaginable human tragedy,” Kluge told a news conference today.
Kluge said health workers at such institutions were often overburdened and low paid, and demanded that they be given more protective equipment and support, describing them as “silent heroes” of pandemic.
He said that while the outbreak of coronavirus in some European countries appears to be stabilizing or declining, the pandemic is still far from over.
