(ORDO NEWS) — The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the death rate from COVID-19 in the world has decreased by almost 90 percent since February.

“Last week, the WHO was informed of just over 9.4 thousand deaths from COVID-19, which is almost 90 percent less than in February this year, when the number of deaths per week exceeded 75 thousand,” said Ghebreyesus.

The head of the WHO also urged all governments, communities and people to remain vigilant. The continued spread of new variants of the coronavirus remains a concern, he said. He added that in this regard, the organization continues to encourage everyone to be fully vaccinated.

In September, Ghebreyesus complained about the threats in light of the new variant COVID-19 pandemic. The official noted that he received messages with threats to his life. “Threats are sent to me directly via SMS. I don’t know where they got my number from,” he said.
