US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The authorities of Broward County (Florida) allowed the cruise ships Zaandam and Rotterdam, on board which are infected with a new type of coronavirus, to enter the port of Fort Lauderdale.
This was announced on Thursday by CNN, citing representatives of the district.
According to the company Holland America, which is the operator of the vessels, more than 1.2 thousand passengers and about 1.1 thousand crew members are on board.
According to CNN, eight passengers are infected with coronavirus, approximately 200 people have pneumonia or flu-like symptoms. On board Zaandam, four people with coronavirus had previously died.
According to the channel, the ships will call at the port within a few hours. Only passengers without signs and symptoms of the disease will be allowed to go ashore. Patients are expected to be provided with medical care on board.
According to Johns Hopkins University, which makes calculations based on data from federal and local authorities, more than 216 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the United States. More than 5.1 thousand people died.
