NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — The United States could theoretically start a third world war by striking Iran, former adviser to the head of the Pentagon, Colonel Douglas McGregor , said in an interview with the London Real portal.
“The (US – editor’s note) war with Iran will most likely lead to a third world war,” the officer suggested.
In his opinion, if Egypt is drawn into the current Israeli-Palestinian aggravation, it will drag in many other states.
“Everyone will fall in. It will be very difficult to avoid Armageddon at this stage,” the expert predicted.
McGregor is convinced that the United States does not have enough resources to sustain a conflict of this magnitude.
On the morning of October 7, Israel was subjected to a large-scale rocket attack from the Gaza Strip as part of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, announced by the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement.
After massive artillery strikes, the organization’s fighters penetrated into the border areas in southern Israel.
In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched Operation Iron Swords against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Within days of the attack, the IDF took control of all populated areas along the Gaza border and began launching air strikes against targets, including civilians, in the Strip. Israel also announced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip: the supply of water, food, electricity, medicine, and fuel was suspended.
Israeli analysts previously linked the Hamas attack to the desire of the movement and Iran allegedly behind it to interfere with the process of normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, which was going on behind the scenes with the mediation of the United States.
The kingdom’s neighbors, the UAE and Bahrain, recognized Israel and normalized relations with it in 2020.
The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic to the UN told RIA Novosti that the country’s Armed Forces will not engage in combat if Israel launches a ground operation in the Gaza Strip, unless the IDF attacks Iranian territory.
