The richest people in New York left the city

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — After the coronavirus pandemic began, about 5% of New York’s population left the city. They mainly included the richest people. In total, almost 8.5 million people live in New York and 420 thousand of them left the city. These are mostly wealthy people who lived in elite areas.

Experts conducted an analysis, taking into account the geolocation of smartphones and found that the number of residents in some areas of New York was reduced by almost 40%. It was also possible to establish that most residents left for coastal areas or for cities located on the East Coast.

They tried to hide in remote places where they could wait out the coronavirus pandemic and not get infected with a dangerous disease.

Some of the New Yorkers traveled to cities near New York. Because of this, rents for housing have increased several times. For example, in Hampton, she now reaches 30 thousand dollars for living in a house for two weeks.

About 50% of those people who left New York receive more than 100 thousand dollars a year. Another approximately 33% have an income above 200 thousand dollars.

Kim Phillips-Fein said that due to the fact that people are divided into social strata, the crisis for everyone goes differently. Because of this, the motto “We are all in this together” cannot be used, although many repeat it very often.

Experts say that the main reason for the move of so many people was that economic activity was frozen in elite areas. This is explained by the fact that it was New York that became the epicenter of the coronavirus in the United States. By the number of cases, this millionaire city exceeded many not only cities, but also countries, especially Germany and France.
