US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — In 1921, a Rhodesian man was discovered in Africa, archaeologists from Australia and Britain studied his remains. As it was recently determined, the age of our ancestor discovered is 200 thousand years less than originally assumed.
Specialists from the Australian University of Griffith noted the importance of the remains for studying the species Homosapiens. A skull of a previously unknown species was discovered by a miner in a cave near the real city of Kabwe in Zambia.
To date, the discovered species has been outside the tree of human evolution. Some scholars believed that the ancient man is about 500 thousand years old. However, studies have shown that the remains are about 300 thousand years old.
This means that the Rhodesian man was not our direct ancestor, and therefore the skull was attributed to Homoheidelbergensis. Representatives of this species lived in Africa and Europe 600 thousand years ago.
A study of the remains made it clear that in the distant past, at least 3 human species lived in Africa, the third of which was primitive and able to move quickly through trees.
Most likely, modern man appeared as a result of crossing different types of ancient people, and not linear evolution, when each new species crowds out the previous one.
