US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — US Department of Defense plans to deploy 1.1 thousand military doctors in the city of New York, most of whom will work in a specially equipped COVID-19 pneumonia patient care facility at a conference Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan.
This was announced on April 5 by department head Mark Esper on CNN.
“We plan to deploy an additional 1,100 doctors, nurses and other health workers in New York. Most of them will work at the Jacob Javits Center,” said Esper.
He also emphasized that a preliminary agreement had already been reached with New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and State Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Recall, as reported earlier, the governor of the US state of New York, Andrew Cuomo, wrote on a page on the social network Twitter that the US federal government will equip 2500 extra beds at the Jacob Javits conference center in New York for patients with COVID-19. He noted that this decision was dictated by the “lack of hospital capacity.”
In addition, U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters on April 4, said that U.S. authorities are mobilizing an additional several thousand troops to help the country’s regions combat the spread of COVID-19.
