In the event of a nuclear war, humanity will face 15 years of hunger
(ORDO NEWS) — For the first time, experts from the United States used a climate model in order to establish how exactly smoke affects the atmosphere of our planet.
The results showed that after a nuclear war, the climate will change so much that it will have an extremely negative impact not only on the health of all people, but also on food. The results of this study were published in the scientific journal Geophysical Research – Atmospheres.
In the course of the study, the most modern climate model was applied, which made it possible to establish how regional or global nuclear wars would affect the state of the planet.
As a result of such an event, the climate may change for the worse for at least 15 years, which will cause a noticeable reduction in food products.
In doing so, the experts took into account some of the characters. For example, if a nuclear war happens between countries such as India and Pakistan, more than 5 megatons of soot will enter the atmosphere.
According to the results of the model, hostilities between Russia and the United States will cause the release of 150 megatons of harmful substances. The stratosphere will gradually become warmer.
In addition, several other factors will affect the depletion of the ozone layer. In 15 years, up to 75% of the planet’s protective layer will be lost. Partial recovery may take at least ten years.
Because of this, the Earth will begin to suffer from excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which will not only harm human health, but also negatively affect the development of agriculture.
