US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The world-famous entrepreneur and philanthropist Bill Gates once again spoke about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence, calling this technology highly controversial and unpredictable. The 63-year-old billionaire recently visited Stanford University, where he took part in a conference on AI.
During his speech, Gates compared intelligent machines with atomic energy, which gave humanity both cheap electricity and deadly weapons of mass destruction. According to the businessman, artificial intelligence could be used everywhere in areas such as education and medicine, but in reality, scientists are actively introducing it into the military industry, wanting to get “smart” killer cars.
The American draws attention to artificial neural networks that mimic the functioning of the human brain and led to a real revolution in the technological field. Today, advanced neural networks are used, for example, for face recognition. So, surveillance cameras at major Chinese train stations successfully recognize each person and, identifying wanted persons, immediately notify the police.
Technology giants like Google and Facebook are actively using AI to collect and analyze data. Such methods are very opaque, and major high-tech companies are often criticized for spying on users and obtaining their confidential information without permission.
Finally, as mentioned above, Gates is concerned about the weaponization of AI (weapon – “weapons”) by the United States, Russia, China and other countries. According to US media reports, the Pentagon annually allocates hundreds of millions of dollars to develop software that can independently manage military equipment.
