US withdrawal from open skies agreement

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The United States withdraws from the Open Skies Treaty. Presidential Administration Donald Trump has notified international partners of this, the agency Associated Press writes.

According to the Americans, Russia is violating its obligations under this agreement.

Meanwhile, Moscow did not receive any notifications from the United States. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko. However, this step will negatively affect the military security system in Europe. Especially after the United States withdrew from the treaty on intermediate and shorter-range missiles, the diplomat noted.

The Open Skies Treaty entered into force in 2002. 34 states have ratified it. According to this document, participating countries can fly over each other’s territories and collect information about the armed forces.

Especially for the open skies contract in Russia, the Tu-214 aircraft was converted. Three video cameras and three cameras were installed on it. However, the quality of their shooting is limited: a resolution of not more than 30 centimeters.
