US says China will remain strategic rival after pandemic ends
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The United States believes that China will remain their strategic rival even after resolving the coronavirus crisis. This was announced on Wednesday by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo in an interview with reporters from East Asia and the Pacific.
The State Department distributed the transcript of the conversation.
“Since the crisis began, we continue to look for any opportunity to interact with China, we have had very important economic relations,” said Pompeo.
“Shortly before this [spread of coronavirus], we entered into the first phase of the trade agreement. We hope that the second phase will not keep you waiting long. ”
“At the same time, there are serious challenges from China. There are areas in which, as noted by US President Donald Trump, there is no reciprocity,” the Secretary of State said.
“He [China] will continue to be, as previously determined by the US administration, a strategic rival of the United States,” the head of the diplomatic office emphasized. “I don’t think this will change, we learned some things. America needs to provide resources that we can save at such a time.”
