(ORDO NEWS) — A new eruption occurred on the Indonesian volcano Raung at 13:53 local time, July 16, 2020. This is the first recorded eruption of this volcano since its last active phase, which ended in August 2015.
The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 10 mm and a duration of 56 seconds.
The ash column rose to a height of about 3,432 m above sea level. Ash height data were provided by ground observers. The ash cloud moved north.
The aviation color code has been upgraded to orange.
At 08:49 UTC, a new Vona (Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation) was issued stating that ash emissions were continuing.
According to the Darwin VAAC recommendation, published at 08:30 UTC, volcanic ash is difficult to identify in satellite imagery due to meteorological clouds.
