US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The company of American entrepreneur Elon Musk SpaceX has won a NASA contract to deliver astronauts to the moon under the Artemis program. This was reported on April 16 on the website of the American space agency.
It is noted that the contract amount is $ 2.89 billion. The company will develop the first commercial lander, which will safely deliver two American astronauts to the lunar surface.
In February, NASA awarded Firefly Aerospace with a contract to ship scientific research equipment to the moon. The cost of the order was $ 93.3 million. According to the document, in 2023 the company will have to deliver a series of 10 research and technological samples to the moon.
NASA’s lunar program, Artemis, envisions three flights to the Moon. The first stage is scheduled for 2021, the second for 2023. During the third, it is planned to land people on the moon using the Orion spacecraft.
In March, it was reported that the US Space Agency plans to bring the first woman to the moon in the next 10 years.
