(ORDO NEWS) — Qualcomm announced on Wednesday, March 16, that it had suspended the sale of its products to Russian companies. The company joined the sanctions against Russia because of the attack on Ukraine.
Information about the termination of Qualcomm’s work with Russian companies was announced by the company’s senior vice president for government relations, Nate Tibits, on Twitter in response to a comment by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov.
Calling on Qualcomm to stop deliveries to Russia, Fedorov said that Qualcomm products are still available in Russia. In response, Tibits stated the following:
“We comply with US sanctions and laws, we do not sell products to Russian companies.”
Tibits also added that the company has made donations to charities to help those affected.
After that, Fedorov thanked the company’s management and asked to send Qualcomm satellite phones for Ukrainian rescuers.
Why is it important
Qualcomm makes a huge range of chips, and it’s not just single-chip platforms for smartphones. The company also produces chips for telecommunications and network equipment, Internet of Things devices, set-top boxes and other products.
