(ORDO NEWS) — The question of whether we are alone in the universe still remains one of the greatest philosophical mysteries of our time. While it seems almost unbelievable that our civilization is alone in space, the scientific world still lacks evidence to the contrary.
Recently, NASA astrobiologist Lindsay Hayes tried to answer one of the main mysteries that have long troubled many researchers.
The bulk of space exploration is looking for signs of microbial life, according to Lindsay Hayes. This is something that can be found in the Universe in much greater numbers than more complex intelligent beings like humans.
“We have discovered only a tiny part of Mars … and this is just one of the promising celestial bodies for the search for life in our solar system,” she said.
“The outer solar system has icy moons like Saturn’s moon Enceladus and Jupiter’s moon Europa, which look like they might have underground oceans that might be habitable.”
“And this is only in our solar system. The more exoplanets we find around other stars, the more we learn about the variety of conditions in which life can exist.”
After all, given the colossal size of the universe and the number of exoplanets that have recently been revealed to exist outside of our galaxy, the likelihood that Earth is the only planet on which life has evolved seems highly unlikely.
The famous science fiction writer Arthur Clarke once said: “There are two options: either we are alone in the universe, or we are not. And both options are equally formidable.”
