(ORDO NEWS) — The first crew, which will consist entirely of tourists, is planned to be sent to the ISS on February 21, 2022. This mission was named Axiom-1. Participants will be able to visit the microgravity laboratory, which studies weightlessness, as well as how low gravity can affect living organisms.
The duration of the tourist mission will be 8 days. This will not take into account the time spent on departure and return. There will be four tourists on board the station, as well as the astronauts who live there. The flight will be carried out from the Kennedy Space Center, which is located in Florida. For the tourist flight to be successful, Elon Musk‘s SpaceX has developed a special Crew Dragon spacecraft.
The crew will include a former astronaut as well as Axiom Space founder Lopez-Alegria. Back in 2020, he signed an agreement with SpaceX to bring tourists to the ISS. The cost of a mission day (duration is 10 regular days) reaches 35 thousand dollars. This price also includes food, stay and a separate seat on the ISS, communication.
It is worth noting that a private visit to the space station by a Russian filmmaker and actress is scheduled for October this year. At the same time, a professional astronaut will also fly with them.
