(ORDO NEWS) — A large miner from Tanzania found another rare gem and became a multimillionaire. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
On June 24, Saniniu Laizer, 52, father of 30 children, sold to the government two of the largest tanzanite ever found in the world. The authorities valued the gems at £ 2.4 million. President of the country John Magufuli personally congratulated Lizer on a unique find. “This confirms that Tanzania is rich,” the ruler said.
On August 3, the miner sold a third tanzanite weighing 6.3 kilograms, which he had recently found. The stone was estimated at 1.5 million pounds.
Lizer promised that he would spend some of the money on the construction of a school and a shopping center. He stressed that wealth will not change his lifestyle and he will still take care of his two thousand cows.
Tanzanite became famous thanks to the American jewelry company “Tiffany”. The mineral was named after Tanzania, the only place in the world where it can be mined. Good quality stones shimmer in ultramarine or sapphire blue. According to geologists, this is one of the rarest precious stones on the planet, the reserves of which may dry up in 20 years.
Earlier, a giant emerald was found in Russia: a gem weighing half a kilogram was discovered at the Mariinsky mine in the Urals. The cost of the emerald is estimated at 55 thousand dollars. According to experts, the stone has rare characteristics: in terms of color it belongs to the first category, and in terms of grade – to the second. Such minerals are usually not used in jewelry production, but are kept in museums.
