Lived 120 million years ago: archaeologists have found the ancestor of modern birds

(ORDO NEWS) — For the first time, archaeologists managed to find the remains of a dinosaur that resembled a bird and at the same time had an incredibly complex set of feathers in the tail area. The size of the creature did not exceed the size of a modern jay and this feathered dinosaur lived for about 120 million years.

Its peculiarity was the original tail of enormous length. The fossil was discovered by experts in the northeastern part of China. The dinosaur was named Yuanchu Avis kompsosoura. They noted that a similar tail was used to attract the attention of females.

Reported by Sciencealert.

The tail, on which there were only two long feathers, reached a length of almost 30 centimeters. This is about 1.3 times larger than the body of a dinosaur. Scientists said that it was quite difficult to fly with such a tail, so sometimes it was extremely problematic to escape from predators.

At the same time, he had certain advantages. Jingmai O’Connor stressed that if they could survive with such a ridiculous tail, then it was needed.

Yuanchu Avis kompsosoura belongs to the dinosaurs of the Mesozoic era. This species acts to some extent as a link between modern birds and dinosaurs, which had nothing to do with birds. At that time, some of the individuals had fan-shaped tails, as evidenced by numerous fossils that have been found by specialists.
