US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The consequences of the coronavirus pandemic will be “very serious,” said Martin Mühleisen, director of the strategy, policy and analysis department of the International Monetary Fund.
At the same time, he noted that the world economy is ready for shocks and is able to cope with the crisis.
According to the expert, the continued expansion of the economy and the high level of employment created a buffer against the weakening of economic activity due to the pandemic.
“The essence of the fight against the crisis should be to limit the spread of the virus,” he stressed.
On March 11, the World Health Organization declared an outbreak of coronavirus infection COVID-19, spreading from China, as a pandemic.
According to the latest WHO data, more than 230 thousand people have become infected worldwide, most of all in Europe. Almost ten thousand of them died.
