(ORDO NEWS) — Each of us has super-strength, but it manifests itself only in really extreme situations, when it comes to life or death, and time counts in seconds.
Hysterical strength (scientific term) is a person’s display of extreme physical strength beyond what is considered normal, usually occurring when people are or perceive themselves to be in a life-or-death situation.
Examples:
On March 18, 1915, Corporal Seit Seit Chabuk raised 276 kg bombs during the Gallipoli Campaign.
In May 1962, a woman lifted a car to save her child, which inspired Jack Kirby to create the Hulk.
In 1982, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Tony Cavallo was doing bottom repairs on a 1964 Chevrolet Impala when the car fell off the jacks it was propped on, pinning it under him.
Cavallo’s mother, Mrs. Angela Cavallo, lifted the car high enough and far enough that two neighbors could change the jacks and pull Tony out from under the car.
In 1988, in Waialua, Hawaii, while working on a construction contract two weeks after filming the finale of the television series Magnum PI, pilot and Vietnam veteran Steve Cooks lost control of his Hughes 500D helicopter and fell into a drainage ditch.
His colleague, Warren Everall (also known as “Tiny”) lifted the 635kg helicopter just enough for another person to lift Cooks out of the cockpit.

In 2006, in Tucson, Arizona, Tom Boyle watched 18-year-old Kyle Holthrust be hit by a Chevrolet Camaro.
The car squeezed Holtrust, who remained alive, under him. Boyle lifted the Camaro off the teenager and the driver of the car pulled him to safety.
In 2009, in Ottawa, Kansas, Nick Harris (1.70m, 84kg) lifted a Mercury sedan to help a 6-year-old girl trapped underneath.
In 2009, in Newport, Wales, Donna McNamee, Abigail Sicolo and Anthony McNamee lifted a 1.1 tonne Renault Clio, freeing an 8 year old boy.
In 2011, in Tampa, Florida, University of South Florida football player Danus Estenor, who is 1.91m tall and weighs 134kg, lifted a 1,600kg car from a person who was underneath him.
It was a tow truck driver who got caught under the rear wheel of a 1990 Cadillac Seville that rolled forward while he was working under it. The man received only minor injuries.[
In 2012, in Glen Allen, Virginia, 22-year-old Lauren Kornaki rescued her father, Alec Kornaki, after the jack used to support his BMW slipped, pinning him underneath. Lauren lifted the car, then gave her father CPR and saved his life.
In 2012, in Michigan, Austin Smith (age 15) lifted a car to rescue his grandfather trapped underneath.
In Oregon in 2013, teenage sisters Hannah (16) and Hailey (14) lifted a tractor to rescue their father trapped underneath.
In 2013, in Salvage, Newfoundland and Labrador, Cecil Stackless, a 72-year-old man, lifted a Jeep to rescue his brother-in-law, trapped underneath.
In 2015, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Nick Williams lifted a four-wheel drive vehicle to rescue a little boy trapped under his tire.
In 2017, in Temple Terrace, Florida, Kenny Franklin lifted an SUV from a police officer after an accident.
In 2019, in Ohio, Zack Clark, a 16-year-old soccer player, lifted a 1,360kg car when he heard his neighbor calling for help.
