(ORDO NEWS) — Global CO2 levels hit a new millennial high in 2020, despite traffic and industry shutdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Global CO2 levels continue to rise despite a worldwide halt in industry and traffic due to Covid-19. Compared to 2019, CO2 levels have increased by at least 2-3 ppm (parts per million).
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a very well-known greenhouse gas, along with methane (CH4), which is also a very potent greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases trap the heat of the Sun in the Earth‘s atmosphere, raising global temperatures as the trapped heat cannot escape from the atmosphere.
The northern hemisphere is currently experiencing a decrease in CO2 concentration compared to the rest of the world due to natural seasonal variation.
