(ORDO NEWS) — Ivaylo Tunchev and Angel Zhivkov, mathematicians at Sofia University in Bulgaria, presented the results of a new study. It shows what will happen to the solar system in the future.
Experts tried to calculate the probability of how much the orbits of the Earth and other planets will change, and also for how long this system will remain stable.
Mathematicians decided to analyze how stable the solar system is. During the calculations, not only the orbits were taken into account, but also many other characteristics of all the planets in our system and even Pluto, which is now not considered a planet.
The experts tried to find out how long the orbits of the largest objects in the solar system would not change.
The study is based on information about the history of our planetary system, which is 4.5 billion years old. At the beginning of the experiment, mathematicians created a model of the past and studied in detail how the orbits of the planets have changed over the entire existence of the solar system.
After that, they created a model of the future, taking into account previously established trends.
Experts did not try to look too far into the future. They tried to establish what will happen to the orbits of the planets in the next 100 thousand years, because the shorter the time period, the more accurate the results will be. The new study took into account many details that scientists had not paid any attention to before.
It is worth paying attention to the fact that the assumption of Isaac Newton was taken into account, who said that the interaction that arose between the planets would eventually cause chaos. The analysis method used allowed us to transform information about the orbits into 54 ordinary differential equations of the first order.
After that, all the data was loaded into a computer that can calculate the possible future 6,290,000 steps ahead. It is worth noting that one step is equal to six days.
The results of the study showed that in the next 100 thousand years, the orbits of the planets will remain stable and can change by no more than 1% or even less. Experts also calculated several alternative scenarios, but they all showed that the solar system will continue to remain stable.
