(ORDO NEWS) — Swedish scientists from Lund University have proposed an interesting theory according to which life on Earth arose due to structural features of the solar system.
Not only the location of the Earth in the habitable zone near the luminary and the presence of liquid water are important factors, but also the presence of giant planets such as Saturn and Jupiter.
Imagine a star system similar to the solar system.
If there is a rocky planet in an orbit approximately similar to the Earth, on which the origin of life will begin, then an accurate balance is important that will not allow perturbation of the planet’s orbit, for example, due to its proximity to a star.
In this case, the presence of giant planets in the system, which will balance the orbits, becomes an important factor for the emergence and existence of life.
However, if there are less than three giant planets in the system, then the system will become unstable and smaller planets, such as terrestrial planets, can be knocked out of orbit and, therefore, lose all the conditions for generation and maintenance.
This simplifies the search for life in other star systems: if at least three giant exoplanets are not found near the star, then it is unlikely that rocky planets suitable for life will exist in this system.
Our solar system is equipped with a “gravity machine” – the Sun and four giant planets, which create a perfect balance and allow the Earth to be in a “perfect orbit”.
It was this that became the ideal parameter for the origin and existence of life on our amazing planet.
