Dog accidentally discovered ancient silver coins

(ORDO NEWS) — A resident of the Moravian Wallachia, which is in the Czech Republic, walked in the forest with his dog, whose name is Masha. Suddenly, she began to actively dig in one place and soon an earthen pot appeared from the ground. It contained more than 300 ancient silver coins. Experts have established that they were made at the end of the 14th century.

The pot was located just below the surface of the earth and coins were peeping out of it. It immediately became clear that this is some kind of ancient treasure, which is very many years old. The owner of the animal took the find and immediately took it to the regional museum. The pot was found at the end of August on the side of a small hill.

Before proceeding with the study of the find, representatives of the museum checked its condition, as well as the contents using a tomograph. After that, the pot was thoroughly cleaned and the coins were removed from it. As it turned out, it contained Prague pennies. Some coins even have the remains of a special woven money bag.

Archaeologist Samuel Spanigel believes that this money was hidden in the forest by some unknown merchant. He wanted to preserve the property in this way, because in the second half of the 14th century, the Moravian Margrave Wars were just going on in this area.

To date, experts continue to study the find. They want to determine the exact composition of the pot, as well as the bag, which is almost completely decomposed. It may take at least six months to complete all the necessary work.
