Chinese authorities post factum revealed another 1290 coronavirus deaths in Wuhan

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Chinese authorities added 1,290 people to the coronavirus in Wuhan, the first city to have an outbreak. The inaccuracy of the initial data was explained by the congestion of the medical system in the early days of the epidemic.

The Chinese authorities have updated data on patients and deaths from coronavirus infection in Wuhan, where the outbreak was first recorded. “At the end of April 16 the corrected number of confirmed cases COVID-19 and deaths from the disease in Wuhan was 50 333 and 3869 respectively”, said Russian Service “Xinhua” agency.

Thus, the official number of dead in Wuhan increased by 1290 people, and the number of cases – by 325 people.

Wuhan’s outbreak prevention and control headquarters COVID-19 explained the adjustment by saying that hospitals were overloaded at the first stage of the epidemic and some patients with coronavirus were unable to receive inpatient treatment and died at home. And the medical staff worked to the limit of their capabilities, which led to the transfer of belated and erroneous information. In addition, some departmental and private clinics were not connected to the unified epidemic awareness network and were unable to provide their data in a timely manner.

At the end of March, a team was established in Wuhan to investigate the epidemiology and analyze big data related to the epidemic. She was able to collect complete and accurate information from the field and guarantees “the objectivity and correctness of each figure.”

According to a representative of the headquarters, the timely revision of the figures, among other things, indicates respect for every life. “The data on the epidemic are the life and health of the population, as well as public trust in the government,” he emphasized.

Wuhan was the first city where an outbreak of coronavirus infection occurred in late 2019 – early 2020. For two months the city was quarantined. In early April, restrictive measures were lifted.

In total, as of the morning of April 17, almost 2.1 million cases of coronavirus infection were recorded. Nearly 143,000 people died. The total number of cases in Russia exceeded 32,000 people. The total number of victims rose to 273.
