(ORDO NEWS) — A group of Chinese researchers announced that the AlphaWar AI algorithm they created successfully passed the Turing test two years ago.
The algorithm was developed for military headquarters games. He plans military operations at all levels. Playing against people, he did not betray his artificial origin.
But this is necessary not for disguise, but to take into account the human factor, on which, if not everything, then a lot depends in battle.
It is believed that the world‘s first Turing test – an algorithm for checking a machine for humanity invented 70 years ago.
ChatGPT chatbots by OpenAI and a chatbot developed by Google, which have recently become fashionable, also allegedly passed this test.
However, according to the developers of AlphaWar, only their algorithm truly passed the Turing test.
AlphaWar’s military AI has shown the ability to strategically plan military operations and learn by playing both against the enemy and against itself.
When playing with people, they did not even know that the computer was playing against them.
At the highest levels of command, AlphaWar excelled at living strategists, but at the level of unit coordination and in matters of weapon selection, he proved to be less skillful than professional military men.
Taking into account the human factor in combat conditions seems to be an invaluable experience, which, unfortunately, is acquired only on the battlefield with all the attendant losses.
This factor remains the uncertainty, teaching AI to balance which will be the most difficult.
But if this succeeds, then society will have completely different questions for artificial intelligence. And after all, artificial intelligence may also have questions for a person.
