Children secrete coronavirus longer than adults
US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Children have features of an immune response to the coronavirus COVID-19. This was told by Alexander Gorelov, deputy director for research at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor. 80% of coronavirus-infected children tolerate it much more easily than adults. It’s a good news.
The bad news is that children, unfortunately, are a longer source of infection for others, releasing coronavirus for a long time.
“This is an absolutely proven fact, now the ability of children to isolate the virus 18 and 37 days has already been described,” Alexander Gorelov said on the direct line “Generation Dialogue. Children on the Important,” organized by the Content Foundation on May 22, dedicated to Children’s Day.
The deputy director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor explained this feature to the peculiarities of the immune response in children. In adults, he stressed, everything is simple – the immune system has overcome the virus and the infection process has ended. In children, the immune response forms more slowly.
True, there are not so many children among those infected with the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 – only 7% of the total. Alexander Gorelov emphasized that not only people over 65 years old die from coronavirus infection. The victims of coronavirus are people of any age, including children.
Moreover, adolescents 15-17 years old are now most often infected. According to Gorelov, this stems from the fact that they neglect self-isolation measures, violate the regime that should protect them from infection, do not wear masks, and meet with friends.
As of May 22, Russia confirmed 326 thousand 448 cases of coronavirus infection. 3 thousand 249 patients died from complications of coronavirus infection.
At the same time, the number of recovered already exceeds the mark of 99 thousand 825 people. Russia came in second in the world in the number of tests performed. Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, more than 8 million 100 thousand tests for the virus have been made in Russia.
