US, NEW YORK (ORDO NEWS) — US weekly jobless claims hit 4.4 million, bringing 5-week total to more than 26 million.

A record 26 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits in the past five weeks, while the coronavirus pandemic has hit the country’s economy hard.

According to data released today, the number of unemployed increased by 4.4 million last week alone.

Hundreds of members of the House of Representatives of the US Congress will gather in Washington on Thursday to approve the bill for a temporary additional aid of $ 484 billion.

It is part of a total stimulus package of more than $ 2 trillion, the largest of its kind in U.S. history to cope with the coronavirus crisis.

The US is the most affected country in the world by Covid-19.

So far, 47,684 victims  have been registered in the country and 849,092 have been registered infected.
