US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The World Health Organization (WHO) will send a mission to China to study the origin of coronavirus. On Monday, May 25, said the director of the WHO program for emergency health situations Michael Ryan.
“We are in the process of discussion with our colleagues from China. As far as I understand, the specific date of the scientific mission has not yet been determined. But we are waiting for the soonest possible opportunity to conduct such a mission with the participation of scientific representatives from different countries, ”his words are quoted on the organization’s Twitter.
According to Ryan, the mission will be to “understand the origin of the coronavirus.” He also added that China is open to a similar approach.
In early May, US President Donald Trump announced that he had information about the creation of a coronavirus in the laboratory of Chinese Wuhan. In turn, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington has “great evidence” of the artificial origin of the virus.
At the same time, American scientists have refuted versions about the creation of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, in the laboratory.
Despite this, on May 13, US Republican Senator Lindsay Graham introduced a bill to Congress allowing Trump to impose sanctions on China for refusing to cooperate in investigating the origin of coronavirus infection.
In China, they protested in connection with this situation and said that US authorities are launching an investigation with the presumption of guilt against China.
The spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, began in late December last year. The focus of infection was the Chinese city of Wuhan. For several months, the disease has spread to more than 210 countries of the world. On March 11, WHO announced a coronavirus pandemic.
