(ORDO NEWS) — Warning signs on the toes can be a sign of a dangerous and even fatal health condition. So if you suffer from unusual looking toes or leg pain when you walk, it could be a sign of dangerously high cholesterol. The Mirror writes about it.
Doctors and health experts always recommend regular checkups. This helps to detect the disease in the early stages and thus gives a person a chance for recovery and a full life.
Observing our body for any unusual symptoms should be a good habit for everyone, as it can potentially save lives and preserve health. However, not every disease can be detected in the early stages, and high cholesterol is one of them.
This disease, which can be inherited, is mainly caused by eating fatty foods, not being physically active, being overweight, smoking, and drinking alcohol.
Unfortunately, there are no obvious symptoms of high cholesterol. Only with the help of a blood test can you find out the level of cholesterol, and if it is elevated, take measures to normalize it.
Doctors warn that high cholesterol becomes much more serious when individual parts of the body begin to suffer. Therefore, if you suffer from unusual looking fingers or leg pain, it is likely that your body is indicating that your cholesterol level is dangerously high.
According to Dr Sami Firouzi, consultant cardiologist at the Harley Street Clinic, there are at least two signs of dangerous cholesterol levels: brittle nails and slow-growing toenails. These two signs are caused by high blood cholesterol levels, which can lead to peripheral artery disease (PAD).
“Many people with PAD have no symptoms. But some have unpleasant leg pain when walking, which usually goes away after a few minutes of rest. You should consult a therapist if you experience periodic pain in your legs during physical exertion,” said the doctor.
