Two more ineffective coronavirus drugs

(ORDO NEWS) — The drugs used to treat patients with coronavirus turned out to be useless in the fight against the disease. We are talking about lopinavir and ritonavir, which are used in the treatment of HIV, and more recently, COVID-19.

Since their use does not lead to a positive dynamics in the mortality rate of patients, the combination of these drugs, like the anti-malarial drug hydroxychlorin, was stopped in the fight against pandemic.

Recommendations on the cessation of treatment of patients with these drugs came from an international committee whose work is to find ways to combat coronavirus. So the drugs hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir, ritonavir had very little effect on the mortality of patients, and in some cases their effect was completely invisible.

Cancellation of these funds takes place only within the framework of the international Solidarity program. Nevertheless, experts do not exclude the possibility that these drugs can be effective in the initial stages, when the patient is not yet hospitalized, or if they are used as a prophylaxis.

According to the World Health Organization, the above drugs have become part of a study of Solidarity drugs aimed at identifying an effective tool in the fight against COVID-19.

At first, they stopped testing hydroxychlorin, because among the patients who took this drug, the mortality rate increased. And already in June, bp scientists in Britain, who conducted the study, reported that the use of lopinavir and ritonavir is useless in the treatment of coronavirus.

Biocad will be able to begin mass production of vaccines from COVID by the end of the year

Specialists were able to draw such conclusions by analyzing the condition of one and a half thousand patients who took these drugs, and more than 3 thousand people who were treated only with antiviral agents.

The WHO reported the effectiveness of only one drug – remdesivir. This remedy is used for hepatitis C and respiratory syncytial virus. Those patients who were given this medicine showed a positive trend.
