(ORDO NEWS) — In China, a group of paleontologists working since 2020 in the northern province of Hebei have already discovered about 4,300 footprints left by dinosaurs 150 million years ago.
Fossils were found on a fairly large area, which exceeds 900 square meters. The site is located in Xuanhua District near Zhangjiakou City.
The rock layers in which dinosaur footprints were found are incredibly old. Their approximate age reaches 150 million years.
Back in the spring of 2020, experts first noticed unique fossils that were located on a mountain slope of hard rocky rocks.
Some of the tracks were round. In addition, paleontologists managed to find imprints of incredibly large claws that giant prehistoric creatures had.
Sun Xiao, chief engineer of the Hebei Provincial Geographic Office, said that in total, about 4,300 tracks were found and documented.
Experts have established that the discovered traces were left by representatives of four completely different types of dinosaurs.
At the same time, experts note that one type of creature was previously unknown to them. To date, paleontologists are engaged in its identification.
Researchers note that dinosaurs left all these traces not at the same time, but over a fairly long period of time.
At the same time, representatives of not only the Jurassic, but also the Cretaceous period could walk in this area. It is worth paying attention to the fact that herbivorous dinosaurs left traces.
The length of their bodies was more than 15 meters. In addition, part of the tracks belong to predators with an average body length of 4-5 meters.
