(ORDO NEWS) — SpaceX Corporation has announced plans to begin testing the connection of Starlink satellites directly to smartphones.
SpaceX’s plans were announced by Starlink’s vice president of corporate sales, Jonathan Hoefeller.
The top manager said that the corporation will start testing the technology together with T-Mobile by the end of the year.
The collaboration between SpaceX and T-Mobile became known in August 2022.
Then Elon Musk‘s company announced that they were working on a communication standard that would allow satellites to be connected directly to smartphones.
According to Musk, this will solve the problem of the “dead zones” of the American operator, in which cellular communication does not work.
The journalists reached out to T-Mobile for comment, but received no prompt response. It is also unknown when exactly both companies will start testing and which subscribers will be able to take part in it.
At the end of February, SpaceX announced the new generation of Starlink V2 Mini satellites.
It is clarified that the equipment received more powerful antennas, can connect to a new set of frequencies and has a bandwidth four times higher than that of the previous generation equipment.
