(ORDO NEWS) — According to a group of microbiologists, microorganisms should become a “weapon” to prevent conflicts around the world.
A new scientific paper outlines how microbes can be used to solve global and local problems that might otherwise lead to conflict. The authors also say that these resources are underused to date.
Professor Kenneth Timmis explained that worldwide scarcity in basic resources such as drinking water, healthy food, access to basic health care and a clean environment can lead to competition between nations.
In some cases, conflicts may break out. “There is an urgent need to reduce such scarcity, equalize and secure basic resources for all peoples…
There is a wide range of powerful microbial technologies that can provide or facilitate the provision of such resources and services, but the deployment of such technologies is seriously underutilized,” said Professor Timmis.
