(ORDO NEWS) — A new study suggests that eating foods with the aromatic spice may help improve memory and learning ability, as well as reduce some symptoms of anxiety.

This incredibly useful spice is the well-known cinnamon.

The properties of cinnamon are well revealed not only in culinary masterpieces. This spice is also surprisingly useful for health.

Scientists have already proven that cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cancer properties.

The spice helps to improve the function of the immune system, improves digestion and improves blood circulation. New research has revealed several more valuable properties of cinnamon.

“Adding a pinch of cinnamon to your diet or chewing cinnamon gum may help improve memory and learning ability, as well as prevent some symptoms of anxiety,” the study says.

A team of researchers from the Birjand University of Medical Sciences, after reviewing a wealth of literature from PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science and Scopus, took into account 40 studies that focused on the benefits of cinnamon for learning and memory.

Researchers have found that cinnamon and its components, including cinnamic acid, eugenol, and cinnamic aldehyde, have positive effects on cognitive function.

The scientists also concluded that cinnamon increases cell viability while reducing the aggregation of tau and beta-amyloid associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Scientists have also determined that cinnamon and its bioactive compounds can affect brain function and behavioral characteristics.

Most studies report that cinnamon may be beneficial in preventing and reducing cognitive impairment.

Cinnamon can be used as an adjuvant in the treatment of concomitant diseases. However, it is noted that additional studies should be conducted on this issue.
