Daily conversations with those you consider your friends are especially helpful in old age. The research was conducted among people over 80 years old. Friendly conversations extend life for at least 5 years.
But among single people 80+ every fifth died within 5 years. In a group of friendly and sociable elderly people, only 1 in 14 died during the same period of time.
Even those who at least occasionally talked with friends, about 1-2 times a week, had a lower risk of death.
Scientists suggest that friendly communication has a positive effect on lifestyle and reduces stress.
People in the circle of loved ones feel good: they joke, rejoice, play board games, go somewhere together, in general, lead an active social life. Of course, this has a great effect on their well-being.
