Scientists created a cure for cancer based on scorpion venom
(ORDO NEWS) — Russian and Belgian scientists have managed to adapt the molecules of the scorpion venom to treat a number of autoimmune diseases. In particular, they can help in the treatment of several types of oncology.
The relevant report is published in the journal Frontiers in Pharmacology.
In particular, scorpion venom molecules can block potassium channels, which perform vital physiological functions. They are involved in cell division and immune response.
The operation of the channels can be made less active thanks to blocking substances from scorpion venom.
Researchers managed to change the component of the poison, after which he began to block the channels responsible for the development of a number of diseases. Currently, scientists intend to understand how the sites of interaction of proteins and channels are arranged.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the laureates of the state prize in science and technology were able to create a complex for the development and production of drugs based on monoclonal antibody technology capable of “targeted” treatment of cancer.
