(ORDO NEWS) — The majestic Mexican volcano Popocatepetl came to life, spewing a column of smoke and ash about 600 meters from its crater.
The eruption occurred at 07:27 local time (1227 GMT). The massive plume of gas and ash reportedly then spread southeast.
Mexico’s National Center for Natural Disaster Prevention warned people to stay away from Popocatepetl, saying it had seen more than 36 emissions from the volcano in the previous 24 hours.
Popocatepetl is 5,426 meters high and is the second highest volcano in Mexico and the fifth highest in North America.
