(ORDO NEWS) — Experts conducted two new studies that confirmed that hepatitis, unknown to science, affecting only children of different ages, may be associated with coronavirus.
During the first study, it was found that children who had previously had coronavirus are more likely to experience liver dysfunction.
At the same time, most of the young patients who fell ill with an acute form of hepatitis do not say that they had covid. Another common point is the presence of adenovirus 41F in the body, but it is also not capable of causing an inflammatory process in the liver.
The researchers suggest that sick children may have experienced COVID-19 either without symptoms, or they were almost unnoticeable.
More details about this study can be found in the work published in the scientific journal The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
If this really turns out to be true, then viral particles could remain in the child’s gastrointestinal tract. Then they could cause an overly strong reaction of the immune system to the ingestion of adenovirus 41F.
As a result, the body began to independently produce a huge amount of inflammatory proteins, which had an extremely negative effect on the liver.
The authors of the conducted studies believe that it is necessary to additionally try to find traces of coronavirus in the feces of children with acute hepatitis. Other liver damage may also be present.
The reason for this is that the coronavirus S-protein acts as a “superantigen” that can over-activate the immune system.
Mysterious hepatitis has already caused the death of 12 children in different countries. Five deaths were recorded in the United States, Indonesia. One child died in Palestine, Ireland. To date, an unknown form of hepatitis has been detected in 21 countries.
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control provided data indicating that by May 13, 450 cases of acute hepatitis among children had already been officially confirmed.
Most of the young patients are not even 10 years old. 26 patients underwent liver transplantation. Most cases of acute hepatitis among children were recorded in the United States and Great Britain.
