(ORDO NEWS) — Cap Two is a Patagonian giant found off the coast of South America. The body is unusual not only for its gigantic stature, but also for the fact that it has two heads.
Throughout human history, countless people have claimed to have encountered giants. Greek titans, various Norwegian giants, the Chinese giant Pangu, the biblical giants Goliath and Anak are all examples of stories of extremely large creatures in different cultures. This has led many to wonder if real giants ever existed.
One example that has been suggested as a possibility is the giant Cap Two. Cap Two is said to be a Patagonian giant found off the coast of South America.
He is unusual not only for his gigantic stature, but also for the fact that he has two heads. Could this giant be real?
It is scientifically plausible, but its association with P. T. Barnum and the fact that it has not been examined by experts cast doubt on its authenticity.
Giant bones in Baltimore
Cap Two is a 12-foot (3.66 m) giant whose body is in a museum in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. It is believed that this is a Patagonian giant.
Patagonia has long been considered a land inhabited by giants. The legend of the Patagonian giants goes back to a story told by the explorer Ferdinand Magellan.
Magellan and his men stopped on the beaches of South America and traveled inland to explore it. It is said that as they explored, they met natives who were twice the size of an ordinary person.
Perhaps this is due to the fact that some of the indigenous peoples of the region, namely the Tehuelche, were indeed taller than the average European of that time.
This difference in height may have been exaggerated, giving rise to a long-standing European myth that Patagonia was the land of giants.
However, is it possible that there were several real giants in Patagonia, and that Cap Two is one of them?
There are two conflicting stories about the origin of Cap Two. According to the first, Cap Two was met by Spanish sailors around 1673 on the beaches of Patagonia.
He was caught and taken to the ship, where he was tied to the mast. When he freed himself from the mast, he entered into a skirmish with them and was killed by a blow of a pike that pierced his chest.
Thereafter, his body was mummified and stuffed, eventually making its way first to Britain and then to the United States in the 19th century; there it became the subject of numerous shows and freak shows as a spectacle of an unknown world.
The second story says that the giant was found already dead on the beach with a spear in his chest.
According to this version, his body was found by the Paraguayan natives, who mummified the body and bowed to him during a kind of religious ceremony.
At some point after this, the captain of the British schooner, George Bickle, found out about this. He entered Paraguay and stole the body. After taking the body, he brought it with him to the UK.
Both stories end the same way: The body ends up in the hands of showmen, who add it to their collection of curiosities. The body was examined by doctors in the 1960s, who said it showed no obvious signs of forgery.
