(ORDO NEWS) — The Pyramid of the Sun is located in Mexico. The ancient city of Teotihuacan was once located on this place. In it, scientists have found bouquets of flowers that were once presented to the gods. Their age reaches almost 1800 years.
Reported by La Jornada.
The Pyramid of the Sun is considered the largest in Mesoamerica. It is also part of a huge temple complex. It was built specifically for the god Quetzalcoatl. It was also called the “Feathered Serpent”.
This god was highly respected by the local ancient inhabitants and beautiful bouquets of flowers were used as offerings. People believed that this deity was related to the creation of mankind. Hummingbirds and butterflies were also sacrificed, and a little later even people.
Archaeologist Sergio Gomez said that four bouquets were discovered, which are very well preserved. To prevent the flowers from scattering, they were tied with cotton ropes.
The specialist noted that it is still impossible to say the exact age of the find, but it ranges from 2000 to 1800 years. The archaeologist has been looking for artifacts at the site of the ancient city for 12 years. He carefully examined not only the pyramids and rocks, but also the soil.
It should be noted that to date, no more than 5% of the city’s ruins have been studied, so in the future, experts hope to find many more various artifacts. At the same time, more than 100 thousand finds were made earlier, but flowers became the first botanical materials that could survive to this day.
