(ORDO NEWS) — A single Aomori Heartbeat cherry was sold in Japan for a record price of $300.
The record price for one Aomori Heartbeat sweet cherry at the first auction in Japan reached $296 (40,000 yen).
NHK TV reported that a box of 15 cherries sold for $4,400 (600,000 yen). The cost per berry was $296 (40,000 yen), up 25 percent from 2021 prices. A total of 11 boxes of this variety were sold.
Growers from Aomori Prefecture began to actively market their Aomori Heartbeat variety three years ago.
The new variety is distinguished by the size of berries (up to 2–2.5 centimeters in diameter), bright red color, brilliance and balance of rich taste.
