(ORDO NEWS) — Although the rains have returned to parts of Europe, the heatwave and drought this summer will kill many trees over the next two to three years, experts say.
They warn that heatwaves and a drought in Europe this summer will lead to massive tree death over the next two to three years at the most, even if enough rain falls to end the drought.
Heat and drought in Europe will lead to a huge wave of tree death.
“Not only next year, but also in the next two or three years, we will see a cascade of tree death,” said Jan-Peter George from the Tartu Observatory in Estonia.
Numerous studies around the world show that this process is already underway. An article describing the disappointing results of the study was published in the scientific journal New Scientist.
