(ORDO NEWS) — Recent research by Chinese scientists from Shandong University confirms that the use of hearing aids can help reduce the risk of dementia in people with hearing problems.
A study based on information from more than 450,000 members of the UK Biobank showed that people with hearing problems have a 42% higher risk of developing dementia compared to healthy people.
However, those who used hearing aids were not more likely to experience cognitive decline with age compared to healthy people.
The study was conducted over a period of more than 10 years, and the data was collected through a survey of participants, which gives a fairly objective picture.
The average age of the participants was 56 years, and in a quarter of them, doctors found diseases of the hearing organs of varying severity.
However, despite evidence of the positive effects of hearing aids on the brain, some people are still reluctant to use them due to stigma or reluctance to admit their hearing problem.
This can be especially problematic for older people who may experience discomfort from wearing hearing aids.
However, Chinese scientists are confident in the positive effects of these devices on health and the brain, and strongly recommend the use of hearing aids for people with hearing problems, especially those who are already old.
The use of these devices can significantly improve the quality of life and slow down the age-related processes that negatively affect the brain.
